What Is Postpartum Support?

The postpartum phase is so much more than the six weeks after a woman gives birth. Professionals are increasingly recognizing that the postpartum transition period lasts for closer to two years. The process of integrating parenthood into a new mother's identity is a shift that deserves to be cared for, delicately nurtured, and protected by the mother and her community. It’s a continuation of the vulnerable space of childbirth, and it takes so much of a new mother’s physical and emotional resources to find a new normal and it can feel lonely and scary without the right support.

Postpartum care looks like a holistic approach to family support during the adjustment period after birth. It involves assessing the needs of the mother and baby dyad and the family as a whole and creating and implementing a plan to help care for and empower the parents in whatever ways they need.

For new families, finding the right support can be the difference between surviving and thriving in the postpartum period. Set yourself up for success by adding me to your support team. :)

What Sets Me Apart?

I am a trained Postpartum Doula, Certified Lactation Counselor, and social worker with six years of experience working with new families and many more years of experience working with women from diverse backgrounds managing major life changes. I offer a safe, trusted, knowledgable, and reassuring presence in your home to support you and your new family in the 4th trimester.

Many newly postpartum women simply need a compassionate, listening ear to help them process their birth experiences with empathy and understanding. Other women feel confident in their abilities, but just need trusted resource to run ideas by and an extra set of hands to run errands or make nutritious postpartum meals to have available for the family. At the same time, many women feel extremely overwhelmed with the responsibility of caring for a new life and need significant guidance and support as they navigate all the questions that arise. Having an experienced doula to walk them through feeding, sleeping, creating healthy infant routines, and any other concerns is an invaluable resource for them.

I firmly believe that each mother is the expert in her own journey and just needs a trusted and intuitive guide to draw out the power that lies within her. Let me be your mirror as you grow into this new role!

Love Notes

Sarah has been such a tremendous help with my postpartum experience!!! She has been here for me in so many ways and has given me emotional support along with teaching me necessary skills on becoming a new mom! She helped me breastfeed my twins, she helped me sleep train, and helped me with so many more things including safe baby wearing, pumping, dealing with baby fussiness and gas, cradle cap, and much more! She even offered a night shift and after 5 weeks of not sleeping well, she came over for the night and I got to SLEEP THE WHOLE NIGHT! She helped me organize the baby clothes and helped me bathe my twins and trim their nails too. I truly appreciate her and the extra mile she went to make sure I felt confident as a new mom. I would be lost without her! Thank you so much, Sarah! I highly recommend her for all your postpartum needs!!!!!!!
